We supply non-sparking tools, also known as spark-proof tools, spark-resistant tools, explosion-proof tools, intrinsically safe tools, ATEX tools or safety tools, to oil and gas operators, offshore platforms, petrochemical plants, chemical processing facilities, mining and quarrying operations, fuel storage facilities and other sites where conventional ferrous hand tools would create an ignition risk.
Non-sparking tools are manufactured from non-ferrous alloys, primarily beryllium copper (Cu-Be / BeCu) and aluminium bronze (Al-Br), which do not produce sparks on impact with steel or rock surfaces. That makes them safe to use near flammable and explosive atmospheres classified under the ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU) and UK DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002).

ATEX Zone Classification
Please tell us the ATEX zone classification when you enquire: Zone 0 (gas/vapour present continuously or for long periods), Zone 1 (gas/vapour likely to be present during normal operations), Zone 2 (gas/vapour not normally present but may occur in abnormal conditions), or dust zones (Zone 20, 21, 22). Beryllium copper tools are generally recommended for the most demanding applications (Zone 0), while aluminium bronze tools suit Zone 1 and Zone 2.

Non-Sparking Spanners & Wrenches
Open-ended spanners, ring spanners, combination spanners and adjustable wrenches in beryllium copper and aluminium bronze, for use on flanged connections, pipe fittings, valve packing glands and other fasteners in hazardous areas. Available in metric and imperial, single-ended and double-ended, long-reach and standard. They are used in offshore, refinery and chemical plant environments where an iron spanner striking steel would create an ignition risk.
Non-Sparking Hammers & Mallets
Non-sparking hammers, including ball peen hammers (engineers hammers), claw hammers, dead-blow hammers, scaling hammers and club hammers (lump hammers), in beryllium copper and aluminium bronze. They are used in oil and gas production, chemical processing and explosive manufacturing environments for percussion work on pipework, valves, flanges and mechanical equipment, and are a critical item for offshore rigs and FPSO vessels.
Non-Sparking Chisels & Punches
Cold chisels, cross-cut chisels, flat chisels, pin punches, drift punches and centre punches in beryllium copper and aluminium bronze, for chipping, cutting and driving operations in Zone 0, 1 and 2 areas. They are particularly important in explosive manufacturing, ammunition depots, grain storage facilities and other dust-explosive environments (Zone 20, 21, 22), and come in a full range of sizes.
Non-Sparking Pliers & Cutters
Combination pliers, long-nose pliers (needle-nose pliers), side cutters (diagonal cutting pliers), water pump pliers and adjustable pliers in beryllium copper and aluminium bronze, for electrical and mechanical maintenance in hazardous areas. The range also includes wire strippers and cable cutters, and is used wherever cable or wiring maintenance is carried out in ATEX-rated areas.
Non-Sparking Socket Sets
Non-sparking socket sets and individual sockets in beryllium copper and aluminium bronze, with non-sparking ratchet handles, extensions and universal joints. Available in 1/2” and 3/4” drive, metric and imperial. They are used for bolted flange connections, valve bonnets, pressure vessel maintenance and other threaded fasteners in Zone 0, 1 and 2 environments. Both individual sockets and full sets are available.
Non-Sparking Screwdrivers & Other Tools
Non-sparking screwdrivers (flathead, Pozidriv, Phillips), box spanners, pipe wrenches (Stillson type), shovels, spades, scrapers, crow bars (pry bars) and other tools in beryllium copper and aluminium bronze. Shovels and scrapers in non-sparking alloy are specifically required in grain stores, flour mills, explosive compounds and any Zone 20/21/22 dust-explosion risk area where a steel shovel striking concrete could ignite a dust cloud.
Alloy Selection Guide
Beryllium Copper (Cu-Be / BeCu)
Higher hardness and strength, and suitable for Zone 0, 1 and 2. Recommended for the most demanding applications, including petrochemical, offshore and explosive manufacturing. Resists corrosion in salt and chemical environments.
Aluminium Bronze (Al-Br)
A lower cost alternative to BeCu, suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2, with good corrosion resistance. Generally chosen where Zone 0 tools are not mandated by the site safety authority, and also used in munitions and grain environments.
