About Zarges

Zarges was founded by Walter Zarges in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1933, with a simple aim: to make everyday working life easier through well-engineered aluminium products. The company started with ladders and lightweight working platforms, and these early products proved so popular that the original Stuttgart premises were soon outgrown. By 1939 the business had moved to a larger factory in Weilheim in Upper Bavaria, where growing demand and steady product development carried the company forward through the decades that followed.

In 1951 Zarges patented and manufactured the world’s first collapsible aluminium transport case, a product that would go on to become one of the most recognised pieces of industrial equipment anywhere. The Zarges Box, as it became known, was later featured in the book “Deutsches Standards” alongside products like Tesa tape, as one of the designs that helped write German industrial history. Today the case range spans lightweight carry cases, heavy-duty transit containers, equipment boxes for electronics and hazardous goods, and configurable storage systems used by industries as varied as aerospace, broadcast, military and offshore energy.

As Germany’s oldest manufacturer of lightweight aluminium access equipment, Zarges has been setting the standard for ladder and platform engineering for over 90 years. Everything is made to exacting German engineering standards and conforms to the relevant BS EN 131 and EN 131-7 standards for professional ladder use in the UK market. Put a Zarges product next to a budget alternative and the difference shows quickly. The extrusion quality, rung design, foot fittings and locking mechanisms are all noticeably better, which is why the brand is trusted by facilities managers, utilities engineers, construction professionals and industrial maintenance teams who rely on their access equipment every day.

Products We Can Supply from Zarges

Industrial stepladders and combination ladders. The Z600 range is the flagship industrial stepladder line, built to EN 131-7 professional use standards. The Z600 Master Step comes with a platform top, fold-out handrails and non-slip steps as standard, features that count when a ladder is in daily use rather than occasional household service. Combination ladders in the Combi and MultiMaster ranges convert between stepladder, single ladder and staircase configurations.

Extension ladders. Single, double and triple section aluminium extension ladders are available for building maintenance, utilities and construction work, including rope-operated models for safer single-person extension. All conform to relevant EN 131 standards, and GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) versions are available for electrical work where a non-conductive ladder is required.

Mobile access platforms and podium steps. These are lightweight aluminium mobile platforms with guardrails for working at height in warehouses, production facilities and maintenance environments. The SAFEMATIC® automatic locking system on Zarges platforms locks the guardrails in place as the user steps on, with no manual operation needed. They are a step up from stepladders where the job calls for a stable, guardrailed working position.

Zarges K470 and Eurobox aluminium transit cases. The K470 is the standard industrial transport case, with all-aluminium construction, recessed handles, a piano-hinge lid and a simple stacking profile. The Eurobox range offers a larger, pallet-stackable format for bulk equipment storage and transit. Both are widely used in aerospace MRO, military logistics, broadcast and film, offshore energy and scientific instrument transportation. Custom foam inserts, castors, trolleys and external branding are all available.

Fixed access systems and bespoke structures. Zarges designs and manufactures fixed ladders, stair towers, crossovers, gangways and bespoke aluminium access structures for permanent installation in industrial facilities, plant rooms, mezzanine floors and rooftop plant access.
