About Tractel
Tractel Group was founded in 1941 in Paris, France, originally making Tirak wire rope hoists for the construction industry. It has since grown into a specialist manufacturer and distributor of lifting, pulling and height safety equipment, with a portfolio that runs from manual and powered lifting equipment to fall arrest systems, rope access equipment, davit systems and suspended platform equipment for building maintenance.
The Tirfor lever hoist (also known as a come-along or cable puller) is one of the most recognised products in the range. It is a portable, hand-operated winch that uses a reciprocating lever mechanism to tension wire rope, lift loads, pull them horizontally or hold them against movement. The Tirfor is used in construction, arboriculture, vehicle recovery and rigging wherever a compact, portable pulling and lifting device is needed without mains power or a fixed crane.
The Tractel height safety range, which includes fall arrest blocks, retractable lanyards, harnesses and rescue davit systems, is used in industrial maintenance, construction and rope access. The Tractel Dynafor load measurement shackle is a specialist product for rigging and lifting operations where the actual load on a sling or rigging point needs to be measured and displayed in real time.
Products We Can Supply from Tractel
Tirfor lever hoists (TU and TUF series). The Tractel Tirfor TU-8 (800 kg), TU-16 (1,600 kg) and TU-32 (3,200 kg) lever hoists lift, pull and tension wire rope with a compact, portable hand-operated mechanism, and the TUF galvanised version suits marine and outdoor use. All are supplied with wire rope and hook and are LOLER-compliant with a test certificate. It is the most widely used portable wire rope pulling device in the UK construction and arboriculture sectors.
Chain blocks and electric chain hoists. Tractel Tralift manual chain blocks span 250 kg to 20 tonne capacities for maintenance and construction lifting, and the electric chain hoists run from 125 kg to 5 tonne capacities for workshop and production lifting where repeated lifts justify powered hoisting. All come with LOLER test certificates and are available with trolley attachments for beam mounting.
Fall arrest and height safety. Tractel self-retracting lifelines (SRL/ISAF) come in stainless steel wire rope and webbing configurations for fall arrest on vertical and near-vertical climbing, and the Tractel rescue davit systems (Rollgliss series) cover confined space rescue and evacuation from height. All meet the relevant EN standards for fall arrest equipment and are supplied with test certificates and user instructions.
Dynafor load measurement shackles. The Tractel Dynafor electronic load measurement shackle is available in capacities from 1 tonne to 25 tonnes, giving a real-time digital display of the load on a lifting point during rigging. It is used in precision lifting of critical loads, load testing, overload detection during crane and hoist operations, and any rigging where the load distribution across multiple sling legs needs to be verified.

Good to Know
Tractel Tirfor wire rope must be inspected before each use for kinks, broken wires, corrosion and wear. Kinked wire rope should never be used in a Tirfor, as it cannot travel correctly through the jaw mechanism and will jam or slip. Wire rope for Tirfor hoists comes in standard lengths and can be cut to custom lengths. Send us your Tirfor model (TU-8, TU-16 or TU-32) and the rope length you need for the correct Tractel replacement rope.
