About Timken

The Timken Company was founded in 1899 in Canton, Ohio by Henry Timken, who invented the tapered roller bearing. A tapered roller bearing has tapered inner and outer race profiles and conical roller elements, so it can carry radial and axial loads at the same time, which makes it far more versatile than a ball bearing under combined loading. Applied first to wagon axles and then to automobile wheel hubs, the invention established Timken as one of the most important bearing manufacturers in history.

Timken tapered roller bearings remain the standard specification wherever high radial load combines with axial thrust, including vehicle wheel hubs, differentials, gearboxes, bevel gear drives, machine tool spindles and heavy industrial equipment.
