About Spanset

Spanset was founded in Sweden in 1969 and played a leading part in the development of the synthetic textile lifting sling. Its work moved many lifting applications away from wire rope and chain slings towards lighter, softer, more manageable synthetic alternatives that do not damage the surface finish of lifted loads and are easier to handle at the weights involved. The Spanset Group now operates as a global manufacturer and distributor of lifting, lashing and cargo security equipment.

Spanset’s round slings and web slings are manufactured to EN 1492 and carry Working Load Limit (WLL) markings, colour-coded by capacity, with an individual test certificate for each sling. That certification is the documentation LOLER (the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) requires before textile lifting slings can be put into service in the UK. Uncertified or untested slings, however good they may look, cannot legally be used for lifting operations in the UK workplace.

Spanset’s lashing and cargo security range covers the load restraint requirements of the transport sector under EN 12195, providing the ratchet straps, lashing belts, corner protectors and accessories needed to secure loads on lorries, trailers and flatbed vehicles under UK and European road transport regulations.

Products We Can Supply from Spanset

Round slings (endless slings). Spanset polyester round slings (endless round slings) in WLLs from 1 tonne to 100 tonnes in the standard colour-coded grades: violet (1t), green (2t), yellow (3t), grey (4t), red (5t), brown (6t), blue (8t), orange (10t) and above. Round slings are the most versatile synthetic sling for lifting irregular or fragile loads and can be used in straight, choker and basket hitches. All carry EN 1492-2 certification.

Web slings (flat woven slings). Spanset polyester web slings in type 1 (single-ply) and type 4 (double-ply) to EN 1492-1, in WLLs from 1 tonne to 25 tonnes and widths from 30 mm to 300 mm, with metal end fittings (hooks, Delta rings, flat eyes) for connection to lifting equipment. They are used for lifting engineered and fabricated components, structural steel, machinery and equipment, where the flat profile spreads the load across the sling width.

Ratchet straps and lashing equipment. Spanset ratchet lashing straps in 25 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm webbing widths with LC (lashing capacity) from 250 daN to 2,500 daN for securing cargo on flatbed vehicles, with claw hooks, flat hooks and chain hooks. All are made to EN 12195-2 and supplied with the lashing capacity label and user instructions required for road transport load restraint. We can also supply Spanset corner protectors, edge guards and tensioner accessories.

Chain slings and accessories. Spanset Grade 8 alloy steel chain slings in single-leg, two-leg, three-leg and four-leg configurations for lifting machinery, structural steel and heavy components, with safety hooks, shackles and master links as specified. Each is individually proof tested and supplied with a test certificate. We also stock Spanset lifting accessories including sling protectors, shortening clutches and lifting beams.

Industries

Spanset lifting and lashing equipment is used in construction and civil engineering, manufacturing and plant maintenance, steelwork and fabrication, logistics and transport, offshore and marine, wind energy, rail and utilities, and any application that calls for certified load lifting, positioning or cargo securing under LOLER, PUWER or road transport load restraint regulations.

Good to Know

A textile sling must be taken out of service if it shows cuts, abrasion through the outer sleeve, chemical contamination or heat damage, or if the label is illegible. A sling without a legible label cannot be assigned a WLL and cannot legally be used for lifting. LOLER requires a formal examination of lifting accessories every six months. Get in touch if you need to review your lifting equipment register and replace any out-of-service Spanset slings.
