Simpson Strong-Tie.
An American structural connector and fastener manufacturer founded in 1956 in Pleasanton, California, producing joist hangers, post bases, hold-downs, hurricane ties, structural screws and anchor systems used in timber frame construction, housebuilding and structural carpentry across the UK and globally.

About Simpson Strong-Tie
Simpson Strong-Tie was founded in 1956 by Barclay Simpson in Pleasanton, California. The company developed engineered metal connector plates and joist hangers for timber frame construction, products that let timber structural connections be made more quickly, to greater strength and with more predictable performance than traditional skew-nailing or notching.
Simpson Strong-Tie connectors are engineered products, and each one carries published load data in multiple loading directions and combinations, tested to recognised structural standards. Structural engineers use that load data when specifying connections in timber frame calculations, and building control surveyors rely on it when checking that structural connections in new build or renovation comply with Building Regulations. Using unbranded or non-load-rated connectors in structural applications where Simpson connections are specified is a building control and structural compliance issue.
The Simpson Strong-Tie structural screw range, covering the Strong-Drive SD, SDS, SD9B and related screws, has become a standard in UK timber frame and structural carpentry for the same reason as the metal connectors: published structural load data that lets engineers specify and carpenters install with confidence that the connection will perform as designed.
Products We Can Supply from Simpson Strong-Tie
Joist hangers and beam connectors — Simpson Strong-Tie LUS, HU and LSSU series joist hangers for I-joist, solid timber and LVL joists in standard and heavy-duty configurations, in face-mount and top-flange formats, with skewed and sloped versions for non-perpendicular connections. They are used in floor and roof construction wherever joists connect to beams or headers without bearing, and all come with published load tables to EC5 and BS 5268.
Post bases, caps and column connectors — Simpson Strong-Tie ABU, ABA and E-Z Base post bases for connecting timber posts to concrete bases at ground level, adjustable post bases for levelling, and post caps for connecting posts to beams at the top. They are used in decking, pergola, outbuilding and structural post frame construction where the post-to-base and post-to-beam connection must be engineered for uplift and lateral loads.
Structural screws — Strong-Drive SD and SDS — the Simpson Strong-Drive SD structural connector screws for installing Simpson connectors in place of nails for better withdrawal resistance, SDS heavy structural screws in 6 mm and 8 mm diameters for timber-to-timber and timber-to-concrete connections with published structural values, and SD9B screws for decking and composite connector installation.
Anchor systems and hold-downs — Simpson Strong-Tie SET-XP and SET-3G epoxy anchor systems for anchoring threaded rod and rebar into concrete and masonry for structural connections, plus Simpson Strong-Tie hold-down anchors (HDU and PHD series) for connecting shear walls to foundations in timber frame structures that need wind uplift and lateral force resistance.
Industries
Simpson Strong-Tie products are used in timber frame and platform frame housebuilding, structural carpentry and joinery, commercial timber construction, agricultural buildings, decking and outdoor structures, extensions and renovations, and any timber structural application where engineered connection performance data is required for building control compliance or structural engineering calculations.

Good to Know
Simpson joist hangers must be installed with the correct Simpson-specified nails or screws in every nail hole, not partially nailed and not with general-purpose fixings that fall outside the load table. The published load data only holds when the connection is installed exactly as specified. If you’re unsure which Simpson product and fixing is right for your connection geometry and loading, get in touch with the joist size, span and loading and we can confirm the specification.
