Sandvik Coromant.
A Swedish precision cutting tool manufacturer founded in 1942, producing indexable inserts, solid carbide drills, milling cutters, boring bars and toolholding systems that set the benchmark for metal cutting in aerospace, automotive, energy and precision engineering worldwide.

About Sandvik Coromant
Sandvik Coromant was founded in 1942 in Sandviken, Sweden, as the cutting tool division of the wider Sandvik industrial group, which had itself been established in 1862 by Göran Fredrik Göransson, the man who pioneered the Bessemer method for steel production in Sweden. The Coromant name was coined by production manager Carl Sebardt, combining the Swedish word for diamond, “diamant”, with “corona”, the name of Sandvik’s high-speed steel at the time. It captured exactly what the brand was built on: the hardness and precision of cemented carbide applied to civilian industrial production, at a time when the material had previously been reserved almost entirely for military use.
Today Sandvik Coromant is the world’s leading manufacturer of metal-cutting tools, represented in over 150 countries with around 8,000 employees and more than 1,700 active patents. The portfolio spans turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading and toolholding, and within each discipline the depth of the range reflects more than eight decades of continuous development. Key milestones include the T-Max indexable insert system introduced in 1957, Gamma Coating heat-resistant carbide in 1969, and the ongoing development of digital machining solutions that now sit alongside the physical tooling range.
For machine shops, aerospace MRO facilities, automotive manufacturers, energy sector contractors and precision engineering businesses, Sandvik Coromant is more than a supplier of cutting tools. It is a technical reference point. The company’s knowledge centres, application engineers and published machining data are used by engineers worldwide to establish cutting parameters, troubleshoot problems and validate processes.
Products We Can Supply from Sandvik Coromant
Turning tools and indexable inserts. The CoroTurn range covers general turning, hard part turning, parting and grooving, threading and small part machining. Indexable inserts come in a wide choice of grades and geometries for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hardened materials, heat-resistant superalloys and non-ferrous materials. The T-Max P and CoroTurn 107 tool systems are workhorses in production turning across many industries.
Milling cutters and inserts. The CoroMill range includes face mills, shoulder mills, long edge mills, high feed mills, thread mills and slot mills. The CoroMill 390 and CoroMill Plura solid carbide end mill ranges are widely specified in aerospace and die and mould applications, with insert grades available across the full spectrum of workpiece materials.
Drilling. The CoroDrill range covers indexable insert drills, solid carbide drills and exchangeable tip drills. The CoroDrill 460 solid carbide drill and CoroDrill DS20 exchangeable tip system are particularly well regarded for productivity in steel and cast iron, and the range extends to composite drilling for aerospace applications.
Boring and reaming. The CoroBore range handles rough and fine boring, including the CoroBore 825 and 826 for high-precision fine boring in production environments. The CoroBore 825 achieves tolerances suitable for bearing fits and hydraulic cylinder bores.
Toolholding systems. Coromant Capto is Sandvik Coromant’s modular quick-change toolholding system, widely adopted in flexible manufacturing and turn-mill centres. It offers high rigidity and repeatability across a range of machine tool interfaces, and is an ISO standard (ISO 26623). Silent Tools anti-vibration adaptors extend the usable overhang for boring and milling in deep cavities and long-reach applications.
Industries
Sandvik Coromant tools are used in aerospace and defence manufacturing, automotive production, oil and gas, power generation, medical device manufacture, rail, general engineering, die and mould, and precision subcontract machining. If metal is being cut to tight tolerances in a production environment, Sandvik Coromant will almost certainly be on the approved vendor list.
