Petzl.
A French manufacturer of climbing, rope access and work-at-height equipment founded in 1975, producing harnesses, helmets, lanyards, descenders, ascenders and headlamps used by industrial rope access technicians, arborists, rescue teams and professional climbers worldwide.

About Petzl
Petzl was founded in 1975 by Fernand Petzl in Crolles, Isère, France. Fernand Petzl was a caver, and the first products were designed for caving exploration, namely rope ascenders and the first practical caver’s headlamp. From those caving roots the company grew into a comprehensive manufacturer of technical equipment for vertical environments: rope access, climbing, arboriculture, rescue and any professional or recreational activity that involves working or moving on ropes at height.
Petzl’s industrial range, which includes the VERTEX helmets, AVAO and NEWTON harnesses, ASAP fall arrest devices, BASIC and CROLL rope clamps, and ID and STOP descenders, is the dominant specification in the UK industrial rope access and work-at-height market. IRATA-certified rope access technicians working on the exterior of structures, offshore installations, wind turbines, chimneys and bridges choose Petzl for its reliability, the breadth of the range, and the ability to select and combine components into verified, compliant systems.
Petzl headlamps, from the NAO reactive lighting series to the compact TIKKA and ACTIK consumer models, are designed around the particular demands of hands-free lighting in technical environments. The PIXA work headlamp range for industrial use adds ATEX zone-rated models for explosive atmospheres, rounding out Petzl’s coverage of professional lighting needs for workers in technical and hazardous settings.
Products We Can Supply from Petzl
Harnesses, AVAO, NEWTON and SEQUOIA — the Petzl AVAO BOD CROLL FAST sit harness for industrial rope access combines a harness and ventral rope clamp in a single integrated system, the NEWTON work positioning harness suits tower, pylon and telecoms work, and the SEQUOIA arborist harness is made for tree climbing and pruning. All are CE/EN certified to the appropriate standards for their application category, and sizing options cover correct fit across different body types.
Helmets, VERTEX and STRATO — the Petzl VERTEX BEST ANSI industrial helmet for rope access has side slots for ear defender attachment, a chin strap and headlamp compatibility, while the STRATO covers work-at-height and general industrial applications needing head protection together with headlamp capability. Both meet EN 397 for impact protection and EN 12492 for mountaineering/rope access use where applicable.
Rope clamps and descenders — the Petzl CROLL ventral rope clamp and BASIC handled rope clamp for ascending fixed ropes, the ASAP and ASAP LOCK anti-fall devices for continuous fall protection on a fixed line, and the ID and STOP descenders for controlled rope descent. These are the fundamental rope access components, and correctly selected and used together they form the double-rope IRATA-compliant system used on all industrial rope access operations.
PIXA and NAO headlamps — the Petzl PIXA 3 and PIXA 3R work headlamps for industrial environments with outputs up to 100 lumens, the PIXA Z1 ATEX-rated for explosive atmosphere zones, and the NAO RL reactive lighting headlamp for outdoor and professional use with automatic brightness adjustment based on ambient light. All Petzl headlamps are designed for helmet mounting as well as headband use.

Good to Know
Rope access equipment must be inspected before each use and formally inspected at least every 12 months by a competent person, with records kept. Any equipment that has arrested a fall must be taken out of service straight away. Petzl equipment comes with inspection checklists and RFID tagging options to help with equipment management. Get in touch if you need to set up a Petzl inspection and records programme for your rope access team.
