Norbar — professional tools and equipment, UK trade supplier

About Norbar

Norbar Torque Tools was founded in 1942 in Banbury, Oxfordshire, originally to make torque wrenches for the British military. The company has stayed focused on torque measurement and controlled tightening throughout its history and is now one of the world’s most respected torque tool manufacturers, with its products specified in automotive assembly, aerospace manufacture, oil and gas, power generation and critical industrial bolting around the world.

Accuracy is fundamental to the brand. A torque wrench that does not reliably deliver the torque it is set to is not just an inaccurate instrument; in safety-critical bolted joints it is a hazard. Norbar torque wrenches are made and calibrated to BS EN ISO 6789 to the tightest accuracy classes in the standard, and the company runs its own UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory. The Norbar view is plain: torque tool accuracy is not a marketing line, it is an engineering responsibility.

Norbar’s torque multiplier range covers the need for very high torque output, from 200 Nm up to 100,000 Nm, in jobs where a standard torque wrench cannot reach the required figure or where the reaction forces would be unsafe to apply by hand. Torque multipliers use a planetary gear reduction to multiply the input torque from a standard wrench by factors from 5:1 to 125:1, so high-torque bolted joints can be tightened accurately with a manageable applied force.

Products We Can Supply from Norbar

PRO professional torque wrenches. The Norbar PRO series click-type torque wrenches come in 1/4\”, 3/8\”, 1/2\”, 3/4\” and 1\” square drive, covering torque ranges from 1–5 Nm (1/4\” drive) up to 300–1,000 Nm (1\” drive). They are made and calibrated to BS EN ISO 6789 Type II Class B with ±3% accuracy, and supplied with an individual calibration certificate traceable to national standards. This is the reference torque wrench for automotive, engineering and industrial maintenance in the UK professional market.

EvoTorque electronic torque wrenches. The Norbar EvoTorque 2 electronic torque wrench has a digital display, an audible and visual signal at the set torque value, and data logging for torque traceability. It suits work that needs documented torque compliance, such as quality management systems, safety-critical bolted joints and applications where the torque record forms part of the acceptance or hand-over paperwork. It is available in 1/2\” and 3/4\” drive versions.

Torque multipliers (TM series). The Norbar TM series manual torque multipliers offer multiplication ratios from 5:1 to 125:1, reaching torques from 200 Nm to 70,000 Nm with input from a standard click-type torque wrench. They are used in structural steelwork, wind turbine maintenance, pressure vessel assembly and any job where large fasteners need verified high torques without hydraulic infrastructure. Reaction arms and accessories are included.

Pneumatic torque tools and calibration equipment. Norbar pneumatic torque wrenches (PTW series) suit production assembly where repeated tightening to a set torque at high cycle rates is required, and the Norbar torque analyser equipment and torque transducers verify the output of torque wrenches and power tools. The calibration equipment range supports the instrument quality management requirements of ISO 9001 and similar standards.

Industries

Norbar torque tools are used in automotive and commercial vehicle manufacture and service, aerospace assembly and MRO, oil and gas production and maintenance, power generation (conventional, nuclear and renewable), structural steelwork, pressure vessel and pipework assembly, railway and transport, and any application where verifiable torque compliance on bolted joints is a quality or safety requirement.

Good to Know

Torque wrenches should be wound back to their lowest setting after use and stored without load. Leaving a click-type torque wrench set to a high torque value compresses the spring permanently over time, which makes the wrench click early and deliver less torque than the dial shows. Norbar torque wrenches should be recalibrated annually, or after a drop or overload, by a UKAS-accredited laboratory. Get in touch if you need calibration or replacement Norbar wrenches with current certificates.
