About Monument

Monument Tools Ltd was founded in 1893 and is one of the UK’s oldest specialist plumbing tool manufacturers. The range concentrates on the particular tools and consumables that plumbers, heating engineers and building services engineers need for copper and plastic pipework, drain maintenance and general plumbing. Monument products are stocked in builders’ merchants and plumbing trade counters across the UK as standard consumable and tool lines.

The Monument range covers the everyday tools of the plumbing trade that get used up or worn out regularly: pipe cutters (which eventually need replacing, or at least new cutting wheels), flux paste (used up during soldering), lead-free solder wire, PTFE thread sealing tape, and drain rods. These are the products plumbers buy again and again over a working life, and a reliable, consistent supply matters here, because running out of solder or PTFE tape halfway through a job is a real headache.

Monument’s pipe cutters are probably the best-known products in the range. The rotary pipe cutter cuts copper pipe by scoring and rolling a cutting wheel progressively deeper into the pipe wall as you turn the tool around the pipe, giving a cleaner, more accurate cut than a hacksaw with less time and effort. Monument has been making pipe cutters for over a century, and the current range runs from mini cutters for confined-space copper work through to steel pipe cutters for larger-bore jobs.

Products We Can Supply from Monument

Pipe cutters — copper, plastic and steel. We supply Monument rotary pipe cutters in standard sizes (for 15–28 mm copper and plastic pipe) and the Mini Autocut and Autocut 22S for confined-space cutting, plus spare cutting wheels and deburring wheels to extend cutter life. There are also plastic pipe cutters with ratchet and bypass blade mechanisms for clean cutting of MDPE, CPVC, PVC and plastic composite pipe, and steel pipe cutters for larger steel tube and conduit.

Flux paste and lead-free solder. Monument Fluxite flux paste, the original paste flux that has been in use in UK plumbing for over a century, suits general lead-free soldering of copper pipe fittings. Monument lead-free solder wire comes in 3.25 mm diameter for hand-fed soldering and in pre-soldered ring form, with WRAS-approved versions for drinking water pipework. Flux and solder are paired consumables, and both need to be right for a reliable solder joint.

PTFE tape and thread sealants. Monument PTFE thread sealing tape is available in standard (19 mm × 12 m) and heavy-duty (19 mm × 12 m, extra thick) formats for sealing threaded compression and BSP fittings on water and gas pipe connections. PTFE tape is the standard sealing method for threaded plumbing joints in the UK residential and commercial market, and active plumbing and heating contractors get through it in serious volumes.

Drain rods and pipe bending tools. Monument drain rods come in standard 900 mm screw-together sections with plunger, scraper and bag attachments for clearing blocked drains and inspecting them, and the pipe bending springs (internal and external) let you bend copper pipe for small-radius bends in accessible spots without a bending machine. Plumbers, drainage contractors and maintenance engineers use these for routine drain clearance and pipework bending on site.
