Mitutoyo.
A Japanese precision measurement instrument manufacturer founded in 1934, producing digital calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, surface roughness testers and coordinate measuring machines. For precision engineering, aerospace, automotive and manufacturing quality control, Mitutoyo is the global reference standard in dimensional metrology.

About Mitutoyo
Mitutoyo Corporation was founded in 1934 in Kawasaki, Japan, by Yehan Numata, starting out with precision micrometers, a product Japan was importing in large quantities from European makers at the time. Numata’s aim was to produce micrometers at home to a quality that matched European standards. The company managed exactly that, and went on to develop and expand across the full range of dimensional measurement instruments that manufacturing industry depends on.
Mitutoyo is now the world’s largest manufacturer of metrology equipment, a position built on consistently producing instruments to the highest accuracy and repeatability specifications on the market. A Mitutoyo digital caliper, micrometer or indicator is not simply something to measure with; it is a calibrated instrument whose stated accuracy is backed by manufacturing tolerances, calibration processes and traceability to national measurement standards. For quality engineers, production inspectors and precision machinists who base accept-or-reject decisions on their readings, the quality of the instrument is tied directly to how much they can trust those decisions.
Mitutoyo’s Digimatic data output system, a standardised digital interface running across the range, lets measurement data pass straight to a PC, SPC software or data collection system without anyone writing figures down by hand. For quality management systems that call for traceability and statistical process control, Digimatic-equipped Mitutoyo instruments provide the connectivity needed to automate measurement data collection on the production floor.
Products We Can Supply from Mitutoyo
Digital and vernier calipers (Digimatic and AOS series). We supply Mitutoyo digital calipers in the Digimatic 500 series (150 mm, 200 mm and 300 mm measuring range) with 0.01 mm resolution and Digimatic SPC data output, the AOS Absolute origin setting system that removes the need to re-zero after a battery change, and vernier calipers in the 530 series for reference measurement without battery dependency. This is the most widely used Mitutoyo product in UK engineering workshops and quality departments.
Micrometers, outside, inside and depth. Mitutoyo outside micrometers come in the 293 series (digital) and 103 series (vernier), in measuring ranges from 0-25 mm up to 575-600 mm in 25 mm steps, alongside inside micrometers for bore measurement and depth micrometers for step heights and depths. There are blade micrometers and tube micrometers for specialist work too. All carry the measurement face geometry and anvil parallelism behind Mitutoyo’s reputation for accuracy.
Height gauges and surface plates. Mitutoyo Digimatic height gauges in the 192 and 570 series handle precision surface plate measurement of component heights, step heights and feature positions, and the granite surface plates come in Grade A and Grade B accuracy classifications to provide the measurement datum. The height gauge and surface plate work together as the primary tools for surface plate inspection in tool rooms and quality departments.
Dial and digital indicators. Mitutoyo dial test indicators (lever type, in the 513 series) and dial indicators (plunger type, in the 2058 and 2109 series) cover machine tool setup, component alignment, runout measurement and inspection, while the ID-C Digimatic digital indicator suits SPC data output applications. We can also supply magnetic stands, indicator holders and inspection fixtures from the Mitutoyo accessories range.
Industries
Mitutoyo instruments are used in precision engineering and subcontract machining, aerospace and defence manufacturing, automotive component manufacture, tool rooms and toolmaking, quality control and inspection departments, metrology laboratories, medical device manufacture, and any industrial setting where dimensional measurement accuracy and traceability are requirements of the quality management system.

Good to Know
Mitutoyo instruments should be calibrated annually, or more often in high-use or quality-critical settings, by a UKAS-accredited laboratory to keep their traceability. If your instruments do not hold a current calibration certificate with UKAS traceability, measurements taken with them may not be acceptable under ISO 9001, AS9100 or IATF 16949 quality management requirements. Get in touch if you need calibration services or replacement calibrated instruments.
