Our Brands
Megger.
A British electrical test and measurement instrument manufacturer founded in 1889, whose name became the generic term for insulation resistance testers. It produces multifunction installation testers, insulation testers, earth testers, cable fault locators and power quality analysers used globally in electrical installation, utilities and industrial maintenance.

About Megger
Megger traces its origins to 1889 and the electrical instrument business of Evershed & Vignoles in London. The company developed the Megger insulation tester, originally a hand-cranked generator combined with a sensitive ohmmeter, to measure the resistance of electrical insulation on cables, motors and switchgear. The instrument was so widely used and so distinctive that the brand name became the generic term for insulation resistance testers, and electricians and engineers still “Megger” a cable or motor as a verb, whichever manufacturer’s instrument they happen to be using.
Megger is now headquartered in Dover, Kent, and operates globally, with manufacturing and engineering development in the UK, USA, Sweden and Germany. The range has grown far beyond insulation testing to cover the full spectrum of electrical test instruments needed in power distribution, industrial maintenance, cable management and electrical installation, including multifunction installation testers, earth resistance testers, cable fault location equipment, power quality analysers, transformer test equipment and relay protection testers.
In the UK electrical installation and maintenance market, the Megger MFT (Multifunction Tester) series is the most widely recognised multifunction installation tester brand. The MFT1741, MFT1835 and related instruments are specified by electrical contractors for EICR inspections and new installation certificates because Megger’s accuracy specifications, loop test methods and RCD test capability are accepted across the UK electrical industry as the standard against which other instruments are compared.
Products We Can Supply from Megger
Multifunction installation testers (MFT series). The Megger MFT1741, MFT1835 and MFT1553 multifunction installation testers test electrical installations to BS 7671, covering continuity (low-resistance measurement), insulation resistance at 250V/500V/1000V, earth fault loop impedance (No-Trip and standard methods), RCD trip time and current testing, prospective fault current, and supply voltage and frequency. Higher-specification models add Bluetooth connectivity and result storage for documentation and report generation.
Insulation resistance testers (MIT series). Megger MIT300, MIT400 and MIT500 series dedicated insulation resistance testers test cable insulation, motor windings, transformer windings and electrical equipment at voltages from 50V to 10,000V. PI (Polarisation Index) and DAR (Dielectric Absorption Ratio) functions support condition monitoring of large motor and transformer insulation, which is useful in maintenance programmes where tracking insulation condition over time is a reliability indicator.
Earth resistance testers. The Megger DET range measures earth electrode resistance using the fall-of-potential method, and clamp-on earth testers measure earthing system resistance in multi-electrode installations without disconnecting the electrode under test. They are used in earthing system commissioning and periodic testing for electrical installations, lightning protection and telecommunications earthing.
Cable fault location and low-voltage testers. Megger cable fault location equipment pinpoints faults in underground and concealed cables, and the TDR1054 time domain reflectometer handles cable length measurement and fault location. Megger low-resistance ohmmeters (DLRO range) measure the resistance of busbars, connections, contacts and bonding links where milliohm or microohm accuracy is needed.
Industries
Megger instruments are used by electrical contractors, approved electricians, industrial maintenance engineers, utilities and power distribution engineers, building services engineers, facilities managers, cable fault location specialists, and any professional who tests, maintains or commissions electrical installations, cables, motors or switchgear in the UK and globally.

Good to Know
Megger MFT testers need annual calibration to keep their measurement accuracy within the stated specification, and that calibration also supports the legal standing of test results on electrical certificates and EICRs. If your MFT is overdue for calibration, the measurements it produces may not stand up if the installation is later involved in an incident. Get in touch and we can advise on the Megger calibration service or supply a calibrated replacement.
