About Lakeland Industries

Lakeland Industries was founded in 1982 in Ronkonkoma, New York, and is publicly listed on the NASDAQ exchange. It is one of the largest manufacturers of specialist protective clothing in the world, with a particular focus on the high-hazard PPE categories that need properly engineered garments rather than generic work clothing: chemical protective suits, flame-resistant and arc-rated workwear, and disposable coveralls for biological and particulate hazard environments.

The ChemMax range of chemical protective suits is Lakeland’s most technically demanding product line. Type 1 through to Type 6 chemical suits under EN 13982, EN 13034 and related standards give defined levels of protection against liquid splash, chemical spray, aerosols and gas-tight environments. The right suit type depends on the specific chemical hazard identified in the COSHH risk assessment. A Type 6 spray-tight suit for liquid splash is very different from a Type 1 gas-tight suit for airborne toxic gas exposure, and the choice has direct safety implications.

Lakeland’s flame-resistant and arc-rated workwear, the PyroGuard and CATU ranges, covers the specific hazards faced by workers in electrical and petrochemical environments where thermal hazards from arc flash or fire are identified risks. FR (flame-resistant) garments are required by the Electricity at Work Regulations and Energy Networks Association guidelines for work on high-voltage systems, and the range spans the arc rating (cal/cm²) categories those standards set out.

ChemMax chemical protective suits. ChemMax 1, 2, 3 and 4 disposable chemical protection suits come in Type 3, 4, 5 and 6 classifications for protection against chemical liquid splash, spray and aerosol hazards, and the ChemMax 4 Plus gives the highest liquid-tight protection in the disposable range. They are available with integrated booties, with hood, and in coverall format to suit different needs, and are used in chemical handling, spill response, pharmaceutical processing and hazmat operations.

Flame-resistant and arc-rated workwear (PyroGuard). Lakeland PyroGuard FR coveralls and work shirts come in treated cotton and inherent FR fabrics for workers in petrochemical, utilities, oil and gas and electrical environments where thermal hazards have been identified in the risk assessment. Arc-rated versions give defined protection against electrical arc flash at specified incident energy levels (cal/cm²), and the range is compliant with EN ISO 11612 (heat and flame) and EN 61482-2 (arc flash) as applicable.

Disposable coveralls — MicroMax and Safegard. Lakeland MicroMax NS and Safegard disposable coveralls in Type 5/6 classification (EN ISO 13982/EN 13034) protect against dry particles and light liquid splash in painting, insulation work, asbestos removal, pharmaceutical manufacture and general contamination control. They come with or without foot covers, with standard and elasticated hood, and in a range of sizes.

Hi-vis and specialist workwear. Lakeland high-visibility jackets, trousers and coveralls to EN ISO 20471 Class 2 and 3 suit construction, utilities and roadworks, and specialist workwear is available for cold store, food processing and cleanroom applications where particular garment properties such as temperature resistance, contamination control or hygiene are required.
