KNIPEX-Werk C. Gustav Putsch KG was founded in 1882 in Cronenberg, now part of Wuppertal in the Bergisches Land region of Germany, the same area that produced Hazet, Gedore and a tradition of precision metal tool manufacturing going back several centuries. KNIPEX has been family-owned since the start and is now run by the fourth generation of the Putsch family. The company makes pliers and only pliers, a focus that has let it build more specialist expertise, more pliers variants and better manufacturing quality in that one product category than any generalist tool manufacturer can match.

KNIPEX pliers are the professional specification across European plumbing, electrical, automotive and engineering trades, in the same way that a handful of other category-defining brands dominate their own tool categories. The Cobra water pump pliers, with push-button adjustment and a 45-position jaw setting, are the reference product in their class. The combination pliers, diagonal cutters and needle-nose pliers earn the same reputation: tools noticeably better than the alternatives, which professionals keep for decades rather than replace.

Cobra water pump pliers. The KNIPEX Cobra comes in 150 mm, 180 mm, 250 mm and 300 mm sizes and is the reference water pump (channel-lock) pliers, with push-button adjustment through 45 jaw positions and a self-locking jaw geometry that tightens its grip on the workpiece as force is applied. Plumbers, heating engineers and general trades use it for gripping and turning pipes, fittings, nuts and irregular workpieces. The Cobra XS (87 01 100) in 100 mm is the compact version for restricted access.

Combination pliers and diagonal cutting pliers. The KNIPEX 0302 combination pliers in 160 mm, 180 mm and 200 mm handle general gripping and cutting, while the 7001, 7011 and 7022 diagonal cutting pliers in 160 mm and 180 mm cut wire, cable and soft metal. Both use the same induction-hardened cutting edge specification that makes KNIPEX the preferred pliers brand among electricians and engineers who cut cable and wire repeatedly through the day.

Insulated pliers (1000V rated). The KNIPEX range of VDE-rated 1000V insulated pliers covers live electrical working, with combination pliers, diagonal cutters, long-nose pliers and screwdrivers all rated to IEC 60900 / EN 60900 for use on live systems up to 1000V AC / 1500V DC. Electricians use KNIPEX insulated tools on live switchgear, panels and wiring where isolation is not possible before work begins.

TwinGrip, CoBolt and specialist pliers. The KNIPEX TwinGrip slip-joint pliers grip flat and round workpieces equally well with two-direction teeth, the CoBolt compact bolt cutters cut bolts, screws and hard wire up to 5 mm diameter, and there are specialist pliers for circlip installation, hose clip removal, brake calliper work and other maintenance jobs where standard pliers cannot reach or grip correctly.
