About Hytorc

Hytorc was founded in 1968 and is a division of Unex Corporation, a US-based industrial tools group. The company focuses specifically on controlled bolting, the process of tightening fasteners to precise, verified torque or tension values in flanged joints, pressure vessels, structural connections and heavy machinery. In industries such as oil and gas and petrochemical, where flanged joint integrity directly affects safety and containment, controlled bolting to verified torque specifications is an operational requirement rather than a quality preference.

Hytorc’s contribution to the controlled bolting market has been to produce torque tools that are both powerful enough for large industrial fasteners and precise enough for documented torque compliance. Hydraulic torque wrenches, driven by a portable hydraulic pump, can apply torques from hundreds to tens of thousands of Newton-metres, far beyond the range of any manual or pneumatic torque wrench, and they do so with the consistency that hydraulic pressure control provides. That combination of power and precision makes hydraulic torque tools the standard for critical flange bolting in process plant maintenance.

Hytorc’s Lithium battery torque wrench is a more recent development, a battery-powered bolting tool that brings the accuracy and repeatability of controlled bolting to applications where a hydraulic pump and hoses are impractical. The Lithium tool stores torque data for each bolt, giving traceability for the documented bolting programmes required under quality management systems and safety cases.

Hydraulic torque wrenches — square drive and low-profile — Hytorc square drive hydraulic torque wrenches in the Vector series for standard flange and structural bolt applications; and the Stealth series thin-profile cassette wrenches for restricted access applications where a bulky square drive tool cannot engage the fastener. Both operate from Hytorc’s hydraulic pump units and deliver precise torque values controlled by pump pressure. Hytorc Lithium battery torque tools — the Hytorc Lithium cordless electronic torque wrench for controlled bolting without hydraulic infrastructure. The tool applies a set torque value, records the result for each bolt and provides data output for quality documentation. Used in applications where documenting bolt-by-bolt torque compliance is a quality or safety requirement but hydraulic pump deployment is impractical.

Hydraulic pump units — Hytorc electric and pneumatic hydraulic pump units that drive the square drive and Stealth hydraulic torque wrench ranges. The pump sets the working pressure and therefore the output torque of the wrench. Electric pumps for mains-powered operation; air-driven pumps for environments where electrical tools are restricted (ATEX rated versions for hazardous areas).

Reaction arms and accessories — reaction arms, reaction plates and support brackets for routing the reaction force from the hydraulic torque wrench safely to the structure, flange or adjacent bolt. Correct reaction arm selection and placement is essential for safe and accurate hydraulic torque wrench operation, since an inadequately supported reaction creates unsafe conditions and inaccurate torque application.
