A Sheffield-based British manufacturer of precision carbide burrs, mounted points and specialist abrasive products. It is a name trusted by aerospace engineers, toolmakers and precision fabricators for consistent quality in demanding work.

About ATA Garryson
ATA Garryson is a British precision abrasives manufacturer based in Sheffield, a city whose metalworking heritage goes back centuries and which remains a significant centre for precision tooling and speciality steel. The Garryson name has been associated with carbide burrs and precision grinding products for decades, and its reputation in industries such as aerospace, automotive and precision engineering rests on the consistency and accuracy of the product rather than on volume or price competition.
At the heart of the ATA Garryson range are carbide rotary burrs, also known as carbide files or die grinder bits, used for material removal, deburring, shaping, blending and finishing on metal components. These are not commodity products. The geometry of the flute, the grade of tungsten carbide, the concentricity of the shank and the quality of the braze between head and shank all affect how the tool performs and how long it lasts. ATA Garryson’s manufacturing standards in Sheffield produce burrs that perform consistently across a batch and hold that performance over the working life of the tool.
The range also covers mounted grinding points in aluminium oxide and silicon carbide, abrasive flap wheels, and a selection of finishing and deburring products for die grinders, straight grinders and bench grinder accessories. For precision engineering buyers, being able to source carbide burrs and mounted points from one trusted British manufacturer keeps specification and supply simple.
Products We Can Supply from ATA Garryson
Carbide rotary burrs. The core product and the strongest part of the range. Available in all the standard head shapes, including cylindrical, ball nose, tree, cone, inverted cone, oval and flame, in 3 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm shank sizes and in head diameters from 3 mm to 25 mm. Cut styles include standard (coarse), fine and aluminium-cut (an upcut spiral for non-ferrous metals and composites). They are used for casting finishing, weld preparation, cavity work, deburring and profile blending in steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminium, titanium and nickel alloys.
Mounted grinding points. Aluminium oxide and silicon carbide vitrified mounted points for use on die grinders and straight grinders. Available in standard shapes (bullet, wheel, cylinder, cone, tree) and in grit grades from coarse through to fine. Used for internal grinding, cavity work, deburring and blending in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Abrasive flap wheels. Interleaved abrasive flap wheels for die grinders and bench grinder spindle points. They conform to irregular surfaces more readily than solid grinding points, which makes them useful for blending, finishing and removing tool marks from curved surfaces and complex profiles.
Specialist and custom abrasive products. ATA Garryson’s Sheffield manufacturing base allows production of non-standard and custom carbide burr geometries for particular applications. Where an engineering operation has a repetitive requirement that doesn’t fit the standard range, bespoke tooling can be made to order on enquiry.
Industries
ATA Garryson products are used in aerospace component manufacturing and MRO, automotive tooling and die work, precision engineering and toolmaking, structural steel fabrication, power generation and turbine maintenance, oil and gas equipment manufacturing, rail and defence engineering, and general metalworking where the quality of the finishing operation matters as much as the machining that came before it.

Good to Know
Carbide burrs cut far better on aluminium and other non-ferrous metals with an upcut (aluminium-cut) flute geometry. Standard cross-cut burrs tend to load up with material on soft non-ferrous metals and stop cutting cleanly within seconds. If you are ordering for mixed-material use, tell us and we can advise on the right cut style for each job.
